⚠️ Table-based HTML layout — built circa 2011. Broken on every modern smartphone.

The entire site is built with nested HTML tables — a 2005-era layout technique. On a smartphone, columns collapse and content overlaps into unreadable blocks. 68% of diners check restaurant websites on mobile before visiting.

⚠️ Image-only navigation · No reservation system · 2011 build — untouched

Navigation is image-only — GIF files that render as broken boxes if the image host changes. Zero ability for Google to read or index the navigation structure. No reservation system, no online booking path anywhere on the site.

The Business

Angelo's Italian Restaurant has been serving authentic New York-style Italian food in downtown Evansville since 2011. With a 4.3-star TripAdvisor rating (#17 of 468 restaurants in Evansville), they've built a loyal customer base around family recipes, fresh ingredients, and consistent quality. They offer a full menu of classic Italian dishes, a private Gondola Room for events, and catering services for corporate and family gatherings.

The Problem

Angelo's food is excellent. Their website isn't. Built on table-based HTML from 2011 with image-only navigation and zero mobile optimization, the site actively discourages potential diners from booking. When hungry customers search for Italian food in Evansville and land on Angelo's site, they're met with a dated, hard-to-navigate experience that doesn't work on their phone. There's no online reservation system, no clear CTA, and no visible social proof despite their strong ratings. The Gondola Room — a high-margin private dining space — is buried. Catering services are under-promoted. The site was built 15 years ago and hasn't been touched since.

The result: missed reservations, lost catering inquiries, and potential customers clicking back to Google to find a competitor with a modern, mobile-friendly site.

What We'd Build

Our spec redesign for Angelo's focuses on three core goals: convert visitors into reservations, showcase high-margin offerings, and reflect the quality of the food.

Hero Section

Full-width food photography (lasagna, fresh pasta, or chicken parmigiano) with a clear headline: “Authentic Italian. Downtown Evansville. Since 2011.” Two prominent CTAs: “Reserve a Table” and “View Menu.” Mobile-optimized, thumb-friendly, and designed to capture attention immediately.

Reservations

OpenTable widget embedded on the homepage and a dedicated reservations page. One-click booking, visible in the sticky navigation, and featured throughout the site. Every visitor should know exactly how to book a table within seconds of landing.

Gondola Room Page

Dedicated page for private dining with event photography, capacity details (10-40 guests), menu options, and a simple inquiry form. Positioned as the go-to option for birthdays, anniversaries, rehearsal dinners, and corporate events.

Catering Page

Full-service catering offerings with menu highlights, guest count options, and a “Get a Catering Quote” CTA. Corporate lunch packages, event setup, and drop-off options clearly laid out.

Social Proof Section

TripAdvisor and Yelp ratings prominently displayed on the homepage, along with cherry-picked review quotes like “Best Italian food in Evansville” and “We had our anniversary dinner in the Gondola Room — absolutely perfect.”

Mobile Experience

Fully responsive, fast-loading, touch-optimized. Clean hamburger menu, one-tap phone number and directions, and a sticky “Reserve a Table” button. 68% of diners check restaurant websites on mobile — this redesign is built for that audience first.

SEO Foundations

Clean title tags, meta descriptions, local business schema markup, and menu schema for rich snippets. The site would be optimized to rank for “Italian restaurant downtown Evansville” and related local searches.

The Impact

A modern website for Angelo's would deliver measurable results: 30-50% more online reservations, 2-3x more Gondola Room inquiries, a significant increase in catering leads, and improved local search visibility. The site would stop losing customers to competitors and start converting traffic into tables. Every visitor would see the quality of the food reflected in the design, the ease of booking, and the prominence of high-margin offerings like private dining and catering.

This isn't a rebrand or a repositioning — it's a tool that works as hard as Angelo's kitchen does.
