The menu page URL is /blank — Wix's default placeholder name, never renamed. For a new customer searching for the menu, the navigation link reads 'Menu' but the URL in the address bar says 'blank.'

The Situation

Travis Tong opened Callas Tavern in August 2024 with a clear vision: a premium, speakeasy-inspired dining experience in the heart of downtown Owensboro. The website has a different vision — one where the About page still reads “This is the space to introduce visitors to the business or brand.”

The Problem

Travis Tong invested in a real restaurant. He found a building with character in downtown Owensboro, built out a premium dining room, designed a focused menu, and opened in August 2024 as one of the few upscale tavern concepts in the area. Callas Tavern has everything a serious restaurant needs — concept, location, execution.

The website does not reflect any of that.

Go to callastavern.com/about and the browser tab reads “My Site 1” — Wix's factory-default page title, never changed. The entire body of the About page is 100% unedited Wix template copy: “This is the space to introduce visitors to the business or brand. Briefly explain who's behind it, what it does and what makes it unique.” The page ends with a testimonial attributed to “Neil, Owner.” Travis's name is Travis. The menu page URL is /blank.

What It Costs

First impressions in upscale dining are everything. A potential customer who's deciding between Callas Tavern and one of the other downtown Owensboro restaurants — the ones with full menus, real About pages, and a clear reservation path — is making that decision on a phone, often the same evening. They search, they land on the website, and they see “My Site 1” in the tab and template copy in the body.

Callas Tavern loses that customer before they ever taste the food. There is no online booking widget — no OpenTable, no Resy, nothing. A visitor who wants to make a reservation has no direct path to do it from the site. The menu, which should be the center of the experience, is linked from a URL called /blank. Every conversion point that should be converting is either broken or missing.

What a Redesign Would Unlock

A properly built website for Callas Tavern does three things: it tells Travis's real story, it shows the real menu, and it converts visitors into reservations.

Real About Page

A genuine introduction to Callas Tavern — Travis's background, the building's history, the speakeasy inspiration, what makes this restaurant worth the drive to Frederica Street. The browser tab says “Callas Tavern | Upscale Dining in Downtown Owensboro.” The testimonials are from real guests.

Working Menu

The menu lives at /menu, structured clearly by category, readable on a phone without zooming in. Not linked from a URL called /blank.

Reservations Integration

A reservation widget on the homepage — one click to book a table, visible within three seconds of landing on the site. OpenTable or Resy embedded on the homepage and a dedicated reservations page.

Events & Social Proof

An events page for specials and private dining inquiries. A social proof section surfacing the Google reviews Travis has already earned. An Instagram feed showing the restaurant is alive and active.

SEO Foundations

Corrected page titles, meta descriptions, LocalBusiness schema, and local keyword targeting for “upscale dining Owensboro” and related searches. None of this requires rebuilding the restaurant — just a website that shows up the way the restaurant does.

What Pitchcraft Did

Pitchcraft built a full spec redesign concept for Callas Tavern before any contact was made. The spec includes:

  • New homepage with full-bleed food/interior photography, real tagline, and immediate CTAs for reservations and the menu
  • Rebuilt About page with real copy about Travis, the building, and the Callas Tavern concept — browser tab corrected to “Callas Tavern | Owensboro, KY”
  • Working menu page at /menu, structured by category, mobile-optimized
  • Reservations integration — OpenTable or Resy widget embedded on the homepage and a dedicated reservations page
  • Events section for weekly specials, happy hour, private dining inquiries, and live music when applicable
  • Social proof bar on the homepage surfacing the Google rating and key review quotes
  • Contact page with tap-to-call phone, working Google Maps embed, and hours above the fold on mobile
  • SEO foundations — corrected page titles, meta descriptions, LocalBusiness schema, and local keyword targeting across all pages

The spec was built to show Travis exactly what his restaurant could look like online — something that reflects the quality he's already delivering inside. No placeholder text. No “My Site 1.” No fake testimonials. Just Callas Tavern, done right.
