Case Study
Krebs Kontracting
Owens Corning Preferred Contractor with 30 years in Louisville — and their homepage is titled “HOME-0ld”
Live right now
The Evidence
The browser tab and every Google search result snippet shows the homepage title: 'HOME-0ld | Krebs Kontracting' — the name of a Wix draft page that was accidentally published as the live site. Every person who visits sees 'HOME-0ld' in their browser tab.
The footer has three social icons: Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. All three link to Wix's own corporate accounts — not to Krebs Kontracting. The template defaults were never updated. A homeowner who clicks Facebook to see their work ends up on Wix's corporate page.
Their social media icons link directly to Wix's own corporate pages — not to Krebs Kontracting — because nobody ever updated the template defaults.
The Business
Krebs Kontracting is a Louisville roofing and contracting company founded by David Krebs in 1987. They are an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor — a certification representing the top tier of the roofing industry, less than 1% of contractors nationwide — and they offer roofing, siding, gutters, masonry, painting, remodeling, and even custom architectural copper work.
David Krebs also offers personal consulting to help other contractors build better bids. They donate a portion of profits to the Gary Sinise Foundation and Tunnels to Towers.
This is a business with real roots, real credentials, and a genuine story. Their website doesn't tell any of it correctly.
The Problem
Here's what we found when we audited krebskontracting.com:
The Homepage Title Is “HOME-0ld”
The <title> tag on the homepage — what appears in browser tabs, search result snippets, and every web crawler — reads:
HOME-0ld | Krebs Kontracting
That's the name of a Wix draft page that was accidentally published as the live site. Every person who visits their homepage sees “HOME-0ld” in their browser tab. Every Google search result snippet shows “HOME-0ld | Krebs Kontracting.” For an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor trying to win competitive bids, this is the first thing potential customers see.
All Three Social Icons Link to Wix's Corporate Pages
The footer has three social media icons: Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. None of them link to Krebs Kontracting. They link to:
facebook.com/wixtwitter.com/wixyoutube.com/user/Wix
The Wix template defaults were never changed. A homeowner who clicks the Facebook icon to see their work ends up on Wix's corporate Facebook page.
Mismatched Phone Numbers
The phone number displayed in the header differs from the number in the tel: link used for click-to-call. A customer who sees one number, calls it, and hears a different business won't try a second time.
Owens Corning Certification Buried
Being an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor is a significant differentiator — less than 1% of roofers in the country earn it. It's the kind of credential that should be featured prominently on every service page. On this site, it's barely visible, and the page that could build the most trust is buried under a draft homepage title.
What We'd Build
Pitchcraft built a spec concept for what Krebs Kontracting could look like. Here's the vision:
A Homepage Titled Correctly
A homepage titled “Krebs Kontracting | Louisville Roofing & Contracting” with proper meta tags, the Owens Corning badge above the fold, a trust bar with 30+ years in Louisville, and real project photos. A title that a homeowner sees in their search results and thinks: “These people know what they're doing.”
Social Links That Go to Krebs
Every social icon on the site linked to Krebs Kontracting's actual profiles — or removed if they don't have active accounts. No more sending homeowners to Wix's corporate pages.
Service Pages for Every Offering
Individual pages for roofing, siding, gutters, masonry, painting, and remodeling — each with photos from real Louisville jobs, a description of the work, and a quote request CTA. The kind of pages that rank for local searches and close jobs before the estimate visit.
Owens Corning Certification Front and Center
The Preferred Contractor badge featured prominently on the homepage and every service page — with a brief explanation of what it means (top 1%, nationwide warranty backing) that turns a badge into a reason to hire Krebs over a competitor.
The Krebs Story
David Krebs founded this company in 1987. He consults for other contractors. He donates to the Gary Sinise Foundation and Tunnels to Towers. That's a contractor with character — and the kind of story that earns trust from a homeowner deciding who to let on their roof. An About page that tells it.
Spec Redesign Deliverables
- ✓Redesigned homepage with correct title, proper meta, and real project photos
- ✓Built service pages for roofing, siding, gutters, masonry, and remodeling
- ✓Replaced all Wix template default social links with actual Krebs Kontracting profiles
- ✓Reconciled phone numbers — display and click-to-call match throughout
The Opportunity
Roofing is a high-stakes purchase. Homeowners spend weeks comparing contractors before they sign. An Owens Corning Preferred certification and 30 years in Louisville should win those comparisons every time — but not if the contractor's website title reads “HOME-0ld” and the social links go to Wix.
Krebs Kontracting has built real credentials over 30 years. Their site actively undermines them. A homeowner who sees “HOME-0ld” in the browser tab doesn't call for an estimate — they move on to someone who appears to have their act together.
This isn't a hard fix. But until it's made, David Krebs is losing bids to contractors with worse credentials and better websites.
