18 Best of Henderson Awards — and the Contact Page Tells Customers to Use Bing Maps
Rookies Restaurant & Sports Bar — Henderson, KY
15 years. 18 Henderson's Best awards. And the contact page instructs customers: “Click here to find Rookies on Bing Maps.” In 2026.
Live right now
The Evidence
The contact page instructs customers: 'Click here to find Rookies on Bing Maps.' No Google Maps embed. No Google Maps link. A raw Bing Maps link — in 2026. A customer on their iPhone wanting directions has to click a Bing link and figure out the rest themselves.
The site uses nested HTML tables for layout — a 2005-era approach. Loads at desktop width on smartphones, requiring pinching and zooming to read anything. No HTTPS — browsers display 'Not Secure.' 18 awards are buried where no new customer can see them.
The Business
Rookies Restaurant and Sports Bar at 117 2nd Street in Henderson, Kentucky has spent the better part of two decades becoming the city's most-awarded restaurant. Owned by Rodney and Liz Thomas, Rookies has won Henderson's Best across multiple categories — Best Steak, Best Steak and Salad Bar, Best All-Around Restaurant — accumulating 18 awards that represent the sustained loyalty of an entire community. That's not a lucky streak. That's a 15-year track record of excellence that Henderson diners keep showing up to vote for.
Their website was built around the time they won their first award — and never meaningfully updated.
The Smoking Gun: “Click Here to Find Rookies on Bing Maps”
When a new customer visits rookiesrestaurant.com looking for directions, the contact page instructs them:
“Click here to find Rookies on Bing Maps”
Not a Google Maps embed. Not a clickable address. A raw link to Bing Maps — the browser most people haven't opened since Internet Explorer was the default. No map is embedded on the page. No Google Maps link exists anywhere on the site. A customer on their iPhone who wants directions to Rookies has to click a Bing Maps link and figure out the rest themselves.
For a restaurant with 18 Henderson's Best awards, this is the kind of detail that tells the whole story about the site's vintage. It was built in an era when Bing Maps was a reasonable suggestion, and it has not been touched since.
Everything Else We Found
The Bing Maps link is the most specific and undeniable problem, but the audit of rookiesrestaurant.com turned up a full catalog of issues that collectively cost Rookies customers every day:
Broken on Mobile
The site uses nested HTML tables for layout — the 2005-era approach to web design. On a smartphone, the page renders at desktop width and requires pinching and zooming to read anything. Every new customer who finds Rookies on Google and taps the website link is greeted with a layout that doesn't work on the device they're holding.
No HTTPS
The site loads on http:// only. Modern browsers display “Not Secure” in the address bar — a trust signal that erodes confidence before a customer reads a single word.
No Online Ordering or Reservations
18 Henderson's Best awards and zero ability to book a table or place an order online. Competitors with newer sites and fewer awards are capturing the customers who want to plan ahead. Rookies' loyal regulars know to call — but first-time visitors often won't.
Old TripAdvisor Branding
The TripAdvisor link uses the pre-rebrand logo and a mid-2000s URL format — a small detail that confirms the site has sat untouched through multiple platform eras. The awards and reputation have grown. The site has not moved.
18 Awards — Invisible Online
Henderson's Best is a real community signal of trust and quality. Rookies has 18 of them. None of that is prominently showcased on the current site in a way that converts first-time visitors into customers. The awards exist. The website doesn't use them.
What We'd Build
Our spec redesign for Rookies centers on one goal: make the 18 Henderson's Best awards do the selling, and remove every friction point between a potential customer and walking through the door.
Hero Section — Lead With the Awards
Full-width sports bar atmosphere photography, with a headline that opens with the credibility: “Henderson's Most Awarded Restaurant. 18 Henderson's Best Wins.” No new customer should land on Rookies' website without immediately understanding that this is the place Henderson keeps voting for.
Awards Showcase
A dedicated section — above the fold where it can be seen — displaying the 18 Henderson's Best awards by category and year. The kind of social proof strip that turns a curious visitor into a confident first-time diner.
Google Maps Integration
An embedded Google Maps widget on the contact page. One tap for directions on any smartphone, any operating system. No Bing Maps. No raw URLs. Just a map that works the way customers expect in 2026.
Online Reservations
A reservation widget embedded on the homepage and a dedicated reservations page, with phone number prominently displayed as a backup. Every new customer who finds Rookies on Google should be able to book a table in under 60 seconds.
Mobile-First Rebuild
A fully responsive, HTTPS-secured site that works perfectly on every smartphone. One-tap directions, one-tap call, one-tap reservations. The site Rookies' customers deserve — and the site that converts the people finding them on Google every day.
The Impact
Rookies has already done the hardest part — they've earned the reputation. 18 Henderson's Best awards is a 15-year record that no competitor can fabricate. A website that actually uses that credibility would turn the passive brand equity into an active customer acquisition engine.
The existing customer base loves Rookies and keeps coming back. But there's an entire category of potential customer — people new to Henderson, visitors from neighboring communities, anyone who searches “best restaurant Henderson KY” on Google — who currently hits the website, can't read it on their phone, can't find a Google Maps link, and moves on to a competitor with a modern site. That's fixable. And it starts with replacing the Bing Maps link.
